Intuition vs. Deliberation: Cueing Dual Processes
My study examined the connection between cueing creativity and engaging Type 2 processes. We tested participants on analogical reasoning tasks within a two-response paradigm after either cueing them to “think creatively” or not. In between the two responses, participants were asked to make a metacognitive “Feeling of Rightness” (FOR) judgment.
Our analyses revealed that participant did not do significantly better at identifying valid analogies on cued trials than on non-cued trials. In fact, we found the opposite pattern where performance on uncued trials was more accurate than cued trials. Our results also showed that participants’ likelihood of changing their answer on the second response was significantly negatively correlated with their feeling of rightness judgement both on cued trials and non-cued trials.
